side trip from Yosemite----Sequoia National Park
After visiting Yosemite for a few days next May, we are looking to spend 3 - 4 additional days in California before we leave for home in Chicago. Would Sequoia National park be somewhat anti climatic after Yosemite? We have so many choices---back to coast at the beach Santa Cruz? Napa? Any suggestions from your experiences are appreciated.

Skip Maripossa Grove in Yosemite and do "the trees" in Sequoia. I like Sequoia trees far better than Yosemite or Redwoods. All are good, but Sequoia is the best, IMOP. Sequoia is just as special/spectacular IMOP. Yosemite is great too.

If it were me, I'd look for a different kind of California experience to compliment Yosemite. I do love Sequoia NP, and in many ways it's my first choice, but I guess it depends on which airport you're using. That is going to dictate your choice to some degree. If you're flying out of SFO or Oakland, then you should head back toward the Bay Area.
I like the idea of Napa or Sonoma (you can also do the coast there). But if you have kids, that might not be the best choice. If you're golfers, you might enjoy Monterey and a stop in Half Moon Bay on the way back to San Francisco. But if you are flying from another airport, I might recommend something else.

We will be in CA for about a week. Thanks for all of your suggestions. We have decided, as Doug suggested to go to Napa for the last part of trip since we are probably flying in and out of SF. I've always wanted to go there, and I think its a great idea to compliment the national park with something different. What is the difference between Napa and Sonoma? Has anyone ever heard of Silverado Resort? a golf resort close to Napa?
