There are basically 2 seasons on Catalina:
Low from the middle/end of October through mid-May, and High from mid-May til October. Swimming is doable (assuming you have a tolerance for cold water) in the summer.

Catalina hosts a jazz festival during the first 3 weekends in October, which drives up the prices and availability of lodging during those weekends:
