Should I Take the NYC Pass?
There seem to be several promotions on and I would like to take advantage of some savings. We will take subways and will see some sights but I'm just not sure how many at this point. How should I decide?

IF you want to see most of the sites included on the pass, I would say go for it, you will save quite alot of money.
Also on the metro pass, it is good on buses and the subway, so you might try the bus and see more of the city, it is slower but it's a great view as the city goes by.
Have a great time while you are here.

The pass you are referring to (I guess) is good for all subway and most bus travel in NYC.
If you're going to be there a week get the 7-day pass. Tourists go so many places that the pass is a must!

If you're writing about the Metrocard, remember that if you make more than 3 individual trips, or any subway-bus connections, in a day, you've already saved by buying the Visitor Fun Pass.
Or if you're writing about the City-Pass, decide how many of the attractions you're likely to see. Figure in the value of NOT spending time in line at those attractions, and compare it to the "regular" prices. I'm never in NYC enough days to get any value from the pass ... were I staying for a few days, I'd probably try it.

the unlimited Metro card (subway bus pass) that rb_travelerxATyahoo refers to is actually now $7 for one day, not $4, so it takes a little more that 3 rides per day to make it worthwhile. Regular fare is $2, but remember you can get one free transfer per fare, plus if you buy a $10 card, you get 6 rides instead of 5. Also, a 7 day pass is $21, so worth buying that for 3 or more days.
As far as the various city attraction passes, If you aren't sure you want to see most of the choices listed, don't bother. You might end up paying less and not being "stuck" with the choices on the pass if you do it "a la carte". If you are trying to economize, remember that there may be other discounts available to some attractions--some museums have reduced fee times, or are "pay as you wish", and there are discounts available on some websites and in some of the tourist magazines you'll find at hotels.
WHat were you planning on seeing?

We just got back from a week in NYC for our first trip and did get a 7 day New York Pass and it was great!!! I think we got a deal of $100 for the 7 day pass. Regularly was $125 for the adult pass.
The nice thing about it was if we saw an attraction that was available we could stop in and not worry that we might not like it, no worries. We did Madame Tussaud's the first evening there, the kids (older teens) really enjoyed it but we would have NEVER spent $25 a piece to go there without the pass.
Also, something you might not realize is that the pass can be used once A DAY at each site! We never did that, but basically it renews each day, so if you want to go back to a certain museum ask when you go in if you can get in tomorrow with the same pass.
Would be an excellent idea if you were there just before closing and had to leave before you had a chance to experience the whole place.
Two or three museums, including Tussaud's, mentioned that we could come back as many times as we had days on the NY Pass. (7 days, 7 entries, one per day).
The only problem we had at all was Planet Hollywood, which the guidebook said would give you $10 towards a meal or purchase for each pass, well it was $10 for every $20 spent. The four of us had a $63 evening meal but they would only discount it for $30. Not a big deal, but not what the information said.
Have fun!!
