Should I stay at the Maison Dupuy New Orleans?

I'm going to New Orleans in February and am trying to decide on a hotel. After looking through the message board and web sites I have narrowed it down to St Ann/Marie Antoinette, Bienville House and Maison Dupuy. I'm leaning towards the Maison Dupuy but am concerned about provious comments on its location (unsafe or just inconvenient?). Any opinions on which is the best choice, or if I am overlooking a better option?

I don't think the Maison Dupuy is inconvenient or unsafe. It's a great little place. You will enjoy it if you choose it. The Bienville house has a great location as it is right near the river..but you really end up walking or taking a taxi everywhere in the area anyway.

Assume that you're going BEFORE Mardi Gras (last week in Feb) ??? Everything is pretty much booked from Feb 23rd thru March 1st.

That being said, I've not stayed at those hotels, but in the course of investigating options for a friend who IS going I thought that both Maison Dupuy and St.Ann/Marie Antoinette were well located. Look like they have that New Orleans charm.

OR, if you'd rather opt for the bigger chains, both the Sheraton & the DoubleTree located on Canal St. are an easy walk into the quarter.

It would be a shame to choose the large chains over the smaller ones!We stayed at both while we were there and I would definitely go with the Maison Dupuy over the Sheraton! The Sheraton could be anywhere USA.It is ok, but if you are coming to New Orleans.......

I stayed at the Maison Dupuy last year and am going back in two days. I found very convenient and a safe walk from Bourbon. The hotel is lovely, albeit a little on the small side. Check out Domanique's for dinner.

Have you looked into staying at the Monteleone on Royal St.? We went there over New Years and it was great. Nice rooms/great bar/and great location. Look into it.
