Short Visit to Yosemite - Take Tours or On Our Own?

Jump to last reply

We will be tacking a couple of days in Yosemite on to a business trip in mid-May. We will be driving from Grass Valley, CA to Yosemite on Friday morning and leaving on Sunday early afternoon to drive to Sacramento to fly out very early Monday morning, so we will have Friday afternoon, all day Saturday and Sunday until early afternoon. We are staying in the park valley at Ahwanee on Friday night and the Yosemite Lodge on Saturday (hoping for a cancellation at one or the other so we an book both nights at the same place).

We are in our early 60's and fairly fit, but right now we can only do short walks since my husband is still recovering from a total knee replacement. Since very strenuous walking and hiking is out, and since we have such limited time, do you recommend that we book some packaged tours, such as Discover Yosemite Tours or try to sight-see on our own? We usually like to do our own thing but wonder if going the tour route makes more sense for this visit.

If you recommend that we take tours, we would appreciate your feedback on the various tour operators in the area and feedback on which tours to take.

If you think we should go on our own, a suggested itinerary would be very helpful, as well as any tips/advice to make things easier for us.

Thanks so much.
