Short Vacation

We have a pair of free airline tickets and want to go somewhere for just 3 or 4 days. WE are over 60 and have been to most of the big major sites in the US. I just thought that someone may have had a really good experience somewhere and give us some ideas of where we may want to go. Don't want to spend a lot of money, just get away.

For lots of inexpensive things to do, if you like museums, etc try Washington D.C. On weekends hotel rooms are more reasonable than mid week will all the government and business travelers. Also Metro allows you to go carless.

For DW and I, a favorite place to just relax and enjoy the sights and food is Seattle, WA. Watch the water, visit Pike Place Market, relax with a drink in Pioneer Square. Don't know when you want to go, but July and August weather is usually great.

Final recommendation is San Diego, harder to go without a car, but the trolly and light rail will get you to most places. Balboa Park, the Zoo, Midway Museum, Gaslamp District, etc.

patcla46, it might help if you list where you've already been.

Are your tickets good for Canada? How about Montreal & Quebec City? Quite unique - European vibe, great architecture, food and ambiance.

We enjoyed a long weekend at Lake Placid Lodge in the Adirondacks. Beautiful mountain scenery, beautiful lodge, and if you go in the fall, beautiful fall colors.

Do you like wine and fantastic food? How about a few days in California's wine country. Napa and Sonoma are wonderful for a short get-away.

Carmel California has breathtaking scenery and a nice quaint downtown shopping and dining area. Check out the Tickle Pink Inn overlooking Big Sur.

Jackson Hole, Wyoming is a terrific mountain town that is a short drive away from Yellowstone National Park. Rent a mountain cabin for some romantic R&R. I like the fact that the airport is only 30 minutes from town.

Have fun!

Some good suggestions above. Did not see any of the following on your list, all of which I've been to and would make good US vacation destinations to varying degrees and depending on your interests:

Cities: Boston, Newport RI, New York City, Niagara Falls, Annapolis, Charleston, Savannah, New Orleans, Memphis, Nashville, Atlanta, Chicago, St. Louis, Tampa/St. Petersburg, Minneapolis/St. Paul.

National Parks: Arches, Zion, Grand Teton, Bryce Canyon, Acadia.

Other cities off your list I haven't been to that might (or might not) be good options: Key West, St. Augustine, Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin, San Antonio, Los Angeles, San Diego, Baltimore, Honolulu, Asheville NC, Portland OR, Mystic CT.
