Shopping in San Fran after 25 Dec?

Does anyone know if and when the winter sales will be on in San Fran? We arrive 24 Dec and have 5 or 6 days there to shop. Our daughter is getting married in UK in early Jan and we were hoping to buy a mother of the bride outfit and suit, shirt and tie for the wedding in San Fran before we head to UK. Any suggestions? We can't buy anything much here (Australia) as it is summer time and all the items are light weight so it has been difficult to buy something decent. Where would the best place to buy and for the best prices?
Hope anyone can help??? We are staying downtown San Fran.

The post Christmas sales start December 26th, so you will be there in a good time to enjoy shopping. As to the best places, it depends on your budget. Macy's is where I personally would start with for wedding wear.

Sale may not start untill January as many people return and exchange their gifts, use the gift cards.

For cheaper clothing try stores like Ross, Marshall's on Market St and Burlington on 5th @ Howard.

Also search the Fodor's US forum for outlets, there was a long thread for cheaper shopping in SF.

Sales start when the doors open on 26 December and continue until all the excess holiday stock is sold. Walk around the Union Square shopping area and pop into the all the stores to see what discounts are in progress. Macy's is usually has a good after-Christmas sale on apparel. Also go down to Westfield SF Shopping Centre and scout around (esp. the huge Bloomingdale's store.)
