Shopping in Indianapolis
I will be in Indianapolis next weekend. I thought that while I was there that I would try to get a little Christmas shopping done. I will be staying downtown and have heard that the Circle Centre mall is great. Is there any other great shopping downtown? How about out in the city? Maybe something different? How about antique shopping?

For something a little different in shopping try heading up to Massachusetts Avenue. It's a mile or so long stretch starting northeast of downtown about a half mile. Funky shopping, interesting places to eat and drink. Go into Stout shoes and step back in time to a shoe store from the first half of the 1900's. Go to the Rathskeller restaurant in the Atheneum for good German food and beer. It's at Mass. and Alabama.
Southeast of downtown about 1.5 miles on Virginia Ave. is Fountain Square. It has some shopping with, I think, a few antique stores.
If you have wheels you can head south on US31 from downtown. Just south of I-465 on the right side of the road is a big antique store that used to be an Ethan Allan gallery. Continue further south another mile or so and turn left on Southport. Drive a mile and cross over Madison Ave. and ½ mile on the left near the railroad tracks is another big antique store that used to be a furniture gallery. (Seems like that's a popular use for old furniture stores.)

Circle Centre Mall is very nice. Broad Ripple area is really funky; seems to be aimed at twenty-somethings. North of downtown at I-465 & Keystone Ave. is Keystone Crossing Mall, which has the most upscale shopping in Indy. Downtown, eat at Palomino Euro Bistro,St. Elmo Steakhouse, and/or Malibu on Maryland (seafood, all within one block of Circle Centre Mall.
