Shopping Bargains in New York
Hi
We are visiting New York next week to do some Christmas Shopping.
Has anyone any suggestions please as to where the best places are to shop, other than the main department stores and also the best places to bag some bargains, particularly looking for "cheap" Levis.
Thanks

If you want a real shopping experience without ambience, but full of bargains then I suggest you try some of the smaller shops along West 34th Street such as Conway...West 14th Street is also another good bet...if you're feeling adventurous other good areas are St. Nicholas Avenue from West 168th Street to West 181st Street (by the George Washington Bridge) and Fordham Road in the Bronx. Again, the stores in these areas aren't eye appealing and sometimes they're crowded, but you will find lower prices even on brand names.

Real Levi's aren't really discounted much anywhere (But I saw a TV ad of a sale at j.c. penney's this week so coming to NY isn't neceesatry for that!)
Canal Street is the place for all sorts of knockoffs/fakes/trademark infringement, etc. Loehmann's has one pathetic little store in Manhattan and isn't worth a trip. Century 21 as others have mentioned is closed (unless you want to go out to their stores in Brooklyn or Long Island)
NYC has all sorts of districts for shopping e.g. a flower district, fur, etc. that are interesting even if you don't buy. Also, we have great sample sales where companies and designers open up their showrooms to sell nmerchandise from previous seasons or ovewrrruns, usually below wholesale prices. Great especially for accessories and many are going on between now and Xmas.
Look at the websites of New York Magazine, Time Out New York and Citysearch new York for details on sales and stores
