Sheraton Moana Surfrider or Sheraton Princess Kaiulani

Has anyone ever stayed in either of these or could give any recommendations on a middle priced hotel in Waikiki

The Surfrider is nicer than the Princess K. If it were my choice, it'd be a no-brainer.........Surfrider.

The Moana Surfrider is right on the beach whereas the Princess K. is across the street from the beach. Moana Surfrider is my recommendation.

The Moana is a beautifuly restored historic hotel right on the beach. The Princess K is an average hotel across the street from the beach.

absolutely no comparison...stay at the Moana.

Just to help in your searching, in Honolulu the Sheraton Moana Surfrider is called the Moana Hotel. That was it's only name for decades until Sheraton and Surfrider came in to the picture a few years back.

Many people would not have a clue where the Surfrider is, and they will assume the Sheraton in the tall highrise next to the Royal Hawaiian Hotel.

Sorry to go off thread.

I have stayed at the PK and the Moana many times. The Moana is the grand dame of Waikiki, very historical and gracious. The PK is a modern high rise, nothing special about it.

Of course, within both hotels the rooms vary. You could get a crummy room at the Moana and a great room at the PK. They are just across the street from each other, you could get a bargain and stay at the PK but spend all your cocktail and lounging hours steps away at the Moana. Since they are both Sheratons you can have signing privileges at each(and at the Royal Hawaiian and the Sheraton Waikiki.)

I have consistently heard negative reports about the service, room quality and street noise of the Princess Kaiulani. Most people come out of their saying that it was more like a 3 star or at best a 3 1/2 star than the proper 4 star that a Sheraton should be. No-brainer, Moana Surfrider all the way.
