Shared Bathrooms in NYC?

Can I get some reviews from people who have perhaps done the shared bathroom hotel room thing in NYC?

To cut down on expenses, I am willing to do a shared bathroom in NYC as long as the place is overall clean and safe.

My only experiences with shared bathrooms were very negative ones in SF, in that the hotel itself was dirty, and 30 rooms had to share 3 bathrooms, only 1 of which was actually designated for women.

As your SF experience, there are some places that are clean and therefore fine and others that aren't. The Larchmont is one hotel in the village with shared baths that seems to get good reviews on tripadvisor. I think you can't make generalizations. Pick a hotel and then look at reviews on tripadvisor.

Perhaps I should have said, from personal experience, in SF, the hotels that have shared bathrooms tend to be on the lower scale and unclean....and this is from someone who is very frugal when they travel, and not into anything too pricey.

So, if the shared bathroom hotels in NYC are like the shared bathrooms in Europe, I would be ok with them.

And I'll repeat making generalizations is a mistake. Some are fine, others are not. There are also some inns/b & bs in NYC with some shared baths that aren't that much cheaper than a room with private bath in lesser grade hotel. Depends on what you want.

I am sorry if you felt I was making generalizations...I was relating my experience, and asking for the experience of others so as to NOT make generalizations.

Shared bathrooms are iffy. Checking tripadvisor for reviews of each hotel/ B&B is an excellent suggestion.

I am definately checking tripadvisor....the reviews on hotel.com are varrying a bit from tripadvisor...so I am taking both reviews and gathering info from them.

thanks everybody!
