SF Expert Advice - Grand Cafe walk to Orpheum Theatre and back
My daughter and husband are going to see Wicked today at 2 p.m. at the Orpheum. Grand Cafe validates parking if you are going to the show and then eating there. Is it safe to walk from Grand Cafe in Hotel Monaco on Geary St. down Hyde St. to the theater? I can't remember, but I think this is not a very good area??? They were given a gift cert to Ruth Chris Steak House but she would like to eat at the Grand Cafe after the show. She is 5 months PG. Perhaps it would be better to park near the theater and then drive to the Grand Cafe after the show. What do you think?.

It is pretty safe to walk at 2 in the afternoon with a husband along. You can look at the street view on Google maps and see what it's like. The Orpheum is not in the greatest location and I wouldn't walk by myself at night, although if I was being watchful and careful, it would probably be OK. I've never had anything untoward at all happen while walking in the city.
Maybe the parking attendants would have a suggestion on which side street would be best to walk down.

Completely agree with Kailani (I know it's too late for you Ronda, but I thought I'd post for the benefit of others who might wonder the same thing). I hate the walk from Union Square to the Orpheum, just not particularly pleasant. (I hope they enjoy their dinner at the Grand Cafe -- we ate there recently and dinner was excellent, plus the room is gorgeous, if noisy)

Thanks all. They were late leaving home so found a parking lot close to the Orpheum for $5 - Sunday afternoon. Afterwards drove to Ruth Chris. Didn't hear where they parked. It was SIL's b.day and they had a gift certificate so that is where they ate. Not what I would have done.....I mean, it might be a very nice steak place, but it is a chain. There are so many other places to eat. Oh well. SIL had a steak but daughter had the garlic crusted halibut. She said it was very fresh and delicious.
