seward cabins
Has anyone stayed at either of these cabins in Seward: River Valley Cabin or Box Canyon Cabins? I've read where River Valley Cabin is nice but sled dogs are located behind it and they are very noisy. Any suggestion about these or other cabins in seward? Thanks, Jamie

We've stayed at a place with sled dogs. They are noisy only some of the time and then briefly. They might start barking when a car comes in the yard or a moose wanders too close. It wasn't anything that disrupted our sleep. We live in the country so we're used to noises (i.e. local coyotes). Feeding time is also noisy.

Before our trip to Alaska, we recieved beautiful brochures and nice websites on what looked like wonderful cabins.
The photos made them all look so wonderful. Several Fodorites warned us that a lot of Alaska cabins are not what they seem. We opted for non-cabin lodging, such as hotels. We were so glad we did!! During our travels, we would run into one of the "nice" cabins that we were going to stay at, only to find it was nothing like the pictures! We kept saying we were glad we took the advice.
One place I would highly recommend in Seward is the Harborview Inn's off property duplexes. They are very lovely.

I looked at several options in Seward and booked at

Most of time we are going to spend on roads/activites and just need a decent place to sleep.

Have you considered Bear Creek Cabins in Seward? We stayed there a couple of weeks ago and we thought our cabin was great. It was everything the brochure described it as. The bed was super comfy and the place was spotless. We went to Seaveys dog kennel while in Seward and would not want to stay anywhere near that many barkng dogs. There was a campground/trailer park behind the cabins but we never heard a thing. We would definately stay there again.
