senior fares in NYC; Intrepid questions
I often use the all day pass for public transportation in NYC. Now I hear there is a senior fare. Do I show my medicare card as I board? What is the fare?
Also do I need tickets ahead of time for the Intrepid this time of year? I plan to go on a weekday morning. Thank you.

I believe you must purchase a special metro card if you're a senior citizen.

I doubt you'll need advance tickets for the Intrepid.

Gekko is correct re Sr metro card. One has to send in a pic, proof of age, etc. to get the card which is
good for a few yrs & takes about a month to receive unless one goes in person.
However, if you were to use the bus, I have seen folks flash the medicare card & then deposit exact
fare of $1. in coins.

Medicare card plus 4 quarters gets you on bus. For the subway, show medicare card and use your metrocard and you get paper ticket for another ride. Must show paper ticket to booth person and you go in a special gate. Only people who use NYC transportation all the time bother getting the Senior card.

If you get on a bus and are paying with coins, the bus driver generally doesn't ask for a medicare card. You just put in a dollar in coins. If you want a multi use card, you need a photo.
