segway in DC

Have not experienced this mode of transport and we thought it may be a good start to our three day visit to Washington.
The red eye from LAX arrives around 0600 and I would prefer to ride that weekday to become a little familiar with the city layout, would the mid morning or the afternoon tour be the better choice?
thanx Rhettski.

I haven't taken the segway tour in DC, but I did in San Antonio. A segway is really easy and fun to ride -- you will enjoy it!

Even though we are "locals", we did a D.C. Segway tour a couple of years ago just for fun--and it was a ton of fun. If you are only here for 3 days, I would recommend doing the tour on your first day so that you can get a feel for the city and because the tour guides are a wealth of information. They can tell you some things to see and do that you might not have thought of. We did our tour in the evening (beginning at 6pm) because we were doing it at the end of August and we wanted to avoid some of the heat and humidity of the daytime. Another good reason to do an evening tour is because there are fewer pedestrians around, making it easier and a whole lot more fun to ride the Segways.

Stay away from the traffic circles! what a mess - cars etc coming in every direction - lots of horns honking.

Thanx for all advice.
, because we arrive early morning I had hoped do the tour during the day to become familar with lay of the land in daylight!....we arrive early september, the heat and humidity should not be a problem cruising along, doing it first up frees the afternoon for a museum or something, regarding traffic,I sure the folks running these rides/tours would keep us away from major/fast traffic places, common sense and some luck should keep us from becomming road toll on our first day in your fine land....best Rhettski

My parents did this in DC and my family did a segway tour in San Fran. Fantastic way to go!! You will have a blast and I think doing it first thing would be the way to go. You will be fine riding them in about 10-15 minutes of practice

DEFINITELY do the segways.. I posted on this very thing last week - it's a "must do" in my book and the link given by MikeT is the company I've used. I've done it twice - once by myself and once with my husband and a couple family members. It's so much fun and well worth the cost. Not sure the ages of everyone traveling with you but the age minimum is 16. I agree with longhorn55 that the evening tour is great (because it's cooler and you can see the monuments lit up) but you are right that it's a good way to get a feel for the area if you decide to do it during the day. Either way you will enjoy!!
