Sedona or Oak Creek Hotel - need help
Hi - My husband and I will be spending three nights in the Sedona area at the end of April. We will have come from 3 nights at the Grand Canyon. I am looking for a hotel that is about $100 to $120 a night. There seem to be several choices - La Quinta, Comfort Inn, for example.I'm having a hard time figuring out about location pros and cons. Guidebook says the taxes are less in Oak Creek which seems great. A beautiful view would be great. A restaurant on the premises or nearby is handy. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

When you say Oak Creek are you talkng about the Village of Oak Creek, or Oak Creek Canyon? Big difference.
I am not sure about the taxes, but the Village of Oak Creek (about 5 miles before Sedona on the same Hwy.) is nice, and we stay there sometimes just be be a bit away from the traffic (yes, traffic at the Y) and touristy nature of Sedona. Village of Oak Creek is a nice village where people live, and there is golf course there, and HIlton (which unlike the Hyatt in Sedona, sits on several acres and is off the road a bit). There are red rock views from some of the hotels in the village.
We like several of the restaurants in the village also, like Metropolitan Cafe, Minami, Cucina Rustica, and others.
We like Desert Quail Inn in the Village. It used to be a real bargain, but over the years it has gotten its prices in line w/other budget hotels in Sedona proper (like Days Inn in West Sedona, which is a good deal also).
Have stayed at the Sky Ranch Lodge up on the hill by the little airport. Great view rooms w/porches or decks w/views and furniture, homey, like it a lot. Not fancy, but clean and nice, and friendly. Fits your budget. Can walk up to airprt cafe for breakfast, lunch, or dinner from that hotel.

Dear EMD3,
Thank you! I did mean the Village. I just made a reservation at Desert Quail Inn - they received very nice reviews and the price is very good.
I am having last minute thoughts though and wondering if instead we should stay at La Quinta because they have views - the rates are fine. Any thoughts?
Thanks for your help.

Dear EMD3,
Your suggestion of the Desert Quail Inn was a very good one - the Inn is very clean, was reasonably priced, had great views from the balcony (where we also ate one of our dinners when we were too tired to go out), was a two minute walk from an excellent Cafe for breakfast. The owner was most accommodating when his ice machine was broken and bought a bag of ice from the near by IGA! He and his wife are new owners and are in the midst of redecorating.

mcjones, thank you for coming back and giving feedback on your recent stay at Desert Quail Inn. Glad to know the new owners are so accommodating and are keeping the Inn up to its previous standards.
