Sedona, Grand Canyon, Page rough draft

Traveling at the end of April with 7 and 8 year old boys. Here is the rough outline...how's it look? I'll then fill in with actual plans once I know the basics are okay.

Sunday - arrive, get car, drive to Sedona. Reservation at Desert Quail Inn. Do an afternoon hike.
Monday - morning hiking, leave Sedona early afternoon and head to GCNP to arrive before dark. Reservation at Yavapai.
Tuesday - hike South Kaibab (well, a portion of it). We will end up leaving the park thru the east entrance and going to Page. Reservation at the Courtyard for two nights.
Wednesday - Page
Thursday - leave Page, visit Sunset Crater, stay in Flagstaff at the Springhill Suites
Friday - drive to Scottsdale, still need hotel. May hike Camelback if we have time.
Saturday - fly home.

Thanks for your input.

Sounds like a nice trip.

While in Page, see if you can get a half day smooth water raft trip on the Colorado River from the dam to Lee's ferry. You get a bit of the feel of rafting in the canyon without the time and expense commitment.

Hang onto the kids when you hike out to the Horseshoe Bend overlook. It is neat, but there are no railings.

Thank you emalloy. We are planning a rafting trip. We've never done it before, so should be fun.

DebitNM - I'd like to say below $150. I usually use the government rate at Marriotts since it can be used for business or pleasure. The rate in the Phoenix area is $130. And I'm not committed to Scottsdale, but want to be on that side of Phoenix for the quick drive to the airport in the morning.

There's a La Quinta [8888 E Shea Blvd] in North Scottsdale that should be under $100. 101 to 202 for airport. Guess it depends on what time your flight is departing.

April is still pretty prime time for Scottsdale so hotels are $$$

A hint for hugely increased enjoyment of the South Rim of the Grand Canyon:

Instead of starting from G.C. Village where all the tour buses etc. pile in, from Flagstaff head north on hwy 89, at Cameron go west on hwy 64, and you come to the park entrance called Desert View, complete with visitor center, amenities, restaurant, and an observation tower for great photo ops.

Now travel west along the rim, and stop in as many places as you can pull over. Every time you stop and look, the colors and shapes and - I guess since I'm not a geologist - the type of rocks have changed.

By the time you get to the village and join the throngs, you'll feel like you own the place, and your cameras will confirm it.

If you can take the time to do this, you won't soon forget this visit!
