Sedona - Where to stay?

Hi friends. We (partner and I) will be in Sedona for one night in mid September en route to the Grand Canyon. What are your hotel recommendations? Cost isn't a huge issue. Peace, quiet and nice views are more important. Garland's was my first choice, but they have a two night minimum.
Thanks!

Based on what you're looking for, my vote is for Enchantment as well. Stopped there for two nights in early June on the way back from the Grand Canyon. We loved it--especially the peace, quiet and nice views! The heart of Sedona bustles, we were happy to be out of the fray.

And for a memorable meal, try their Yavapai Restaurant--you can eat outside, gaze up at Boynton Canyon, breathtaking.

Take a look at Canyon Villa Inn -- lovely accomodations, great food and nice location. This is a great place.

Thanks a lot. Enchantment looks good. It would be nice to stay someplace that is close to some hiking as it seems Enchantment is. We won't be there long, but I'd like to hike into a vortex.

Canyon Villa looks nice too. Thanks.

It is in a totally different league, but someone I know suggested the Sky Ranch Lodge as a place with awesome views. Apparently it is located on a hill above town.

Sky Ranch Lodge has an awesome view. You have to specify you want a rim view room. The rooms are a bit rustic, but clean. It's a basic motel really and the rim view rooms are fairly private. No services there. We like to sit on the porch with our dinner to watch the sunset.

Another alternative is Inn on Oak Creek. Get a room that overlooks the creek. Very private for a b&b, full service, full breakfast. Lovely place, very quiet.

Enchantment is beautiful. It screams 4-star luxury - if that's what you prefer.

It's been so so long, so things have changed alot. I think we stayed at a Best Western in town, which had pool, hottub, and a stroll into town, which would be nice for one night.

At the time enchantment didn't wow us. Just another lovely resort when you need a spa getaway.

I have always been intrigued by
http://www.lauberge.com/index.php

Bottom line is I would stay in the walking town area.

Funny story, when we checked in many moons ago I asked the young man at the desk where to go for the best sunset. He looked at the clouded sky and shrugged. Well we made it to the chapel and have pictures to prove that when the light hits the redrocks just perfectly, it glows in red glory.

Have fun searching for lodging!!!!

We stayed at LaAuberge several years ago. Our room was gorgeous and spacious with a beautiful view over looking the red rocks. We did have dinner at the restuarant, which was o.k.

Just booked for March at the Hyatt Pinon Pointe for $119 a night on Expedia which is a great rate..
I know that September will be more but they have 1-2 bedroom condo's with fireplace and great views and it's right in the heart of town.
Also, we like staying at Sedona Rouge Hotel and Spa..great rooms with good beds and fab linens..and the spa is reasonable and the steams are free.
Do try and have lunch or dinner at Enchantment Resort at the Yavapai restaurant..excellent food and the views are stunning.

Hi,
For serene quietness and beauty that abounds, try the Briar Patch Inn.
This property is located 3 miles from town down in Oak Creek Canyon. We stay here every Christmas right on the creek. Ea cottage is unique in its own way. Southwestern breakfast is served daily included in price.

My husband and I had a wonderful stay at The Amara. We have a trip report posted about our Grand Canyon and Sedona trip that we took if you'd like to look it over. We went in Sept. as well and found it to be just perfect!

Thanks for all the great suggestions!

I just read your report coryandcarissa. Thanks. I 'll look into Amara as well. We're staying at the El Tovar like you did. I am booked into a Deluxe King without a view. I am going to try to see if I can upgrade to one of the rooms with a deck and view.

Kealalani, I checked availability at L'Auberge on the website and it said they were full. Hard to believe this far out. I'll call and see what they say.

Francie, Is there a particular room at the Briar Patch that you like over the others?

Imaq, 1/9/8
We have stayed in three different cottages, three separate visits. I prefer the SYCAMORE as my fav w/full kitchen, separate bedroom, large liv room, the largest fireplace in this cottage plus it has a very private outside patio, close to the office where a beautiful southwestern breakfast is served ea morn, included in price We have also stayed in the ROBIN and the CASA DE PIEDRA, the most expensive of all, but right on the creek...the most beautiful view. You must know these cottages are very rustic in style. Ea cottage has its own charm. (Check out their website to catch a view of ea cottage.) I might add that to stay here at Christmas time is most inspiring.
To really, really get away from it all....there is the rustic JUNIPINE RESORT (all separate cottages w/deck)which is located farther up Oak Creek Canyon about 8 mi from the town, two lane road. If this sounds way too remote you might also look into hotels located on Hwy 89A west. There is a hotel named SEDONA ROUGE/SPA that pics looks nice on the their website.
If you have the time for a nice dinner out, can recommend Dahl and DiLuca Ristorante located on HWy 89a across from Safeway center.
Best of luck. You will surely enjoy beautiful Sedona.

iamq, don't worry if El Tovar doesn't have a view room available (but great if they do). We really enjoyed the elevated large porch with comfy chairs with tables for viewing the canyon -- wine service, too. We even had a family of mountain goats pop up on the wall near us. It was quite startling to all of us! And a great photo op.

Hope you have a great trip.

iamq,
If Garlands appealed to you, then look closely at Junipine which is very close to Garland's. I agree w/previous poster, Junipine is a very quiet place about 10 min. up in Oak Creek Canyon. But please note that the "creekhouses" as they are called are not separate from each other like the cabins at Garland's. They are like townhouses, next to each other, although they feel more remote and private as the decks are shielded from one another. You are nestled in the Canyon, so depending on where your unit is located you either get a view of the creek or the canyon walls from your deck.

The units are two bedrm, one upstairs and one downstairs, but they can be rented as one bedrm units with the 2nd bedrm closed off. Full kitchen and stoen fireplaces, although no chance of using that in Sept. A friend of mine owns 2 units there and I've stayed in them several times. Some, but not all, of the units have hto tubs on the deck.

One thing about Junipine is there is no AC, and the units are way too hot in summer for me, even though they are in the canyon where it is cooler than in Sedona proper. If it is late Sept. when you visit, it should be cooling off a bit.

A big plus of being in the canyon is that it is very dark at night, not much ambient light as there is in Sedona. This makes for incredible nightime sky at Junipine. I have been in the hot tub and seen literally hundreds of shooting stars and just skies full of stars from the decks at Junipine. There is a nice restaurant, Junipine Grill, which serves good breakfast and fresh trout caught right there in the creek. Fishing is very good in summer and Sept. right at Junipine in the creek. You can play in the creek right at the resort if you have water shoes, it's lots of fun. There is a ncie hiking trail that starts on the grounds of Junipine, and there is the famous West Fork trail almost next door to Junipine.

Chekc their website, this might be what you are looking for since Garlands is not an option. There is no minimum stay at Junipine.
