Castle Hill Inn is located off Ocean Drive in Newport right next to the Castle Hill Coast Guard Station. It is an historic mansion with rooms and a fabulous restaurant on the main level. There are also "cottages" located right on the beach nearby the Inn. This location is one of the most scenic in Newport. The large expanse of lawn overlooks the entrance to Newport and Narragansett Bay. You can sit in one of the lawn chairs and be entertained by watching all of the boats coming and going. There is excellent fishing right off shore here for stripers and blues all season. The lawn area was the setting for Joanie's wedding scene in the show "Providence". The restaurant is fabulous with the same great views. Of course, it is not cheap....we like to go here for special occasions. While I have never seen one of their rooms, I have no doubt that it would be great. They are restoring many of the Inn's areas this winter and I heard that they will be reopening the dining room in April.
Are you talking about the Seaview Inn in Portsmouth??

Not familiar with Seaview Inn, but wished we could have stayed at Castle Hill Inn, but we had small children with us. If I remember correctly either small children were not permitted, or they were sold out. Anyway, looked really nice.

I've never stayed at the Seaview, but I know where it is located. If you are coming in the summer with Kids and are planning to visit the beach every day, this might be a good choice. But they are nowhere near downtown Newport, in fact even walking to the beach would be a chore. Driving and parking in downtown Newport in the summer (if that is when you are coming) can be a real pain, so you need to consider this. Actually, the same holds true for Castle Hill- yes the scenery is the best and the restaurant is good but you will have to drive to get to all other Newport attractions and restaurants.

For what it's worth, the Sea View Inn and Castle Hill are two totally different types of hotels. Really, they're at opposite ends of the spectrum. Castle Hill is beautiful, luxurious, and expensive (it's one of the places we're considering for our wedding night), while Sea View is more of a (albeit nice) "motel". Neither is within walking distance of downtown Newport, where most restaurants, bars, and shops are. Castle Hill is out on Ocean Drive and has beautiful views; Sea View is on Aquidneck near Easton's Beach (not really an ocean beach with waves, more like a bay beach although it is the ocean.)
