We are driving out to Seattle this summer and are wondering if there is a ferry service from Seattle to Prince Rupert, BC from where we could drive back to MT through British Columbia and Alberta.

From Seattle you travel to Vancouver Island (several ferry choices) and drive all the way to the north end of the island (Port Hardy), from which you take the BC Ferries service through the inside passage to Prince Rupert. The drive up the island is okay, the ferry trip is spectacular. http://bcferries.com/
What John said! In addition, the drive from Prince Rupert along the Yellow Head Highway is apectacular. You might want to take a trip up to Kasan to see the Indian long huts and sit in on some of their cultural exhibits and lectures. Barkleyville (sp?) is fun. Restored old village with shops, shows, restaurants, etc. The Yellow Head will take you to Jasper. From there you can go down to Lake Louise, the Glacier Walks and Banf, all of which are worthwhile, and then on to Alberta. It is about one in the morning for me (can't sleep), so, this is all from memory. It's pretty close to accurate though. In Prince Rupert, try Smiley's Restaurant down on the wharf. Not fancy, but very good seafood. If you have any questions, I'll get out my log and try to answer them. Good luck.
