Seattle - surrounding towns to stay at

Hello,

My husband and I will be going to the Olympic Games in Vancouver and then driving down to Seattle. We plan on leaving Vancouver on 3/1/2010 and our flight home is on 3/6/2010. We are in our early 30's and it will just be the two of us.
With the time we have, I was thinking of staying in a quaint town for one or two nights on our drive into Seattle. Are there any islands or areas you would recomend? Is it too ambitious to try to do all of this in 6 days? We love to just explore new places and get a feel for a different pace of life. (we are form Southern California - so a little relaxing is always good for us!) We love to walk around, try restaurants, wineries, pretty much anything!

Thank you for your help.

Six days is plenty of time. My choice this time of year would be a night or two in Coupeville or Langley and to then take the ferry to Port Townsend for another night or two.

My thought was the same. Coupeville on Whidbey Island. I like the Captain Whidbey Inn.

Another vote for Coupeville and Port Townsend. In Coupeville the Cottage on the Cove is a small home, fronting Main Street right on the water with great views and a short walk to several eating places. It is self-catering, no breakfast supplied, but again restaurants are a short walk
A second choice, still on Whidbey Island is the town of Langley.
Port Townsend is also a nice stop for some very interesting old homes. If you are flying out of Seattle drive to Bainbridge Island and take the ferry,

The San Juan islands are also beautiful, but they are a bit more of a time commitment (and why I think Whidbey fits the bill for your request best).
