Seattle in April

How is the weather in Seattle in mid April? Is Skagit worth a visit?
Thanks

According to weatherbase.com, historical averages are temp=50, precip 2.7" (for the entire month) and days with precip 14. However, the NWS outlook is for warmer and drier than average.

Is the Skagit Tulip Festival worth it? Compared to what? It draws tens of thousands of visitors every year, so it must have something going for it. There are many things to do and see in the Puget Sound area...the Festival is only one.

This is what the head of the atmospheric sciences department at the U of W said in his blog today:

"Looking at the model forecasts tonight, I could not believe my eyes. Ridging or high pressure along the West Coast will dominate our weather next week and perhaps longer.

It simply doesn't go away. It may get knocked down for a day by a weak passing ridge...but it just pushes back up. The vampire of weather patterns....but there is no silver bullet or wooden stake to stop it.

If only meteorologists had similar equipment for dealing with ridges that refuse to die.

For the West Coast, the ridging will bring generally dry, warm conditions. Spring in winter."

Lately it has been very sunny in seattle.
I'm not an expert in weather science, but according to my experience, it really depends on your luck. Weather in Seattle is (sort of) unpredictable but I would expect more sunshine in April

Typically the weather in April stinks. Rainy and cold. Wouldn't be a month I suggest to visit. If you can come later in the spring, summer, or early fall Seattle will make a MUCH better impression!

suze, in Seattle

Weather has been very atypical this winter. It's been warm, sunny, beautiful many days. So my usual dire weather predictions may not hold this year.

Very good with weather. Yes, the festival is cute but I wouldn't fly to Washington to see it.
