Seattle Hotels-Hotel Monaco?
I will be visiting Seattle in July and booked for 2 nights at the Sheraton. Mother and Daughter pre cruise stay.
But not sure if I want to stay in a boring "business" hotel, even though the Sheraton is in a nice location. Rates are not exactly that cheap.
Also was considering the Grand Hyatt, but they can't guarantee double beds, don't want to have a problem at check in when can only get a King bed!
Checked out the Hotel Monaco and looks fun and interesting, can get 2 queens bedded room guaranteed at check in.
Has anyone stayed here recently? Any other suggestions for nicer hotels without the "business" feel to it?

I stayed there last summer before a cruise. It is a Kimpton property, a unique chain of hotels, each with their own personality and decor. They have a wine happy hour each evening and are good with restaurant suggestions, etc. I would definitely stay there over a 'business hotel' unless I were collecting points or the rates were significantly cheaper. They also offer complimentary coffee/tea downstairs in the morning. I did have a problem with the room service and the manager handled it beautifully. You can also get a goldfish for your room in case you are missing your pets and need a little 'live' company! This was quite thrilling to the teens we had with us!

Thanks ellenbw, like the goldfish concept too, will remember to request one when if I decide to stay here.
I am really leaning towards this hotel because wanted something more "special and interesting" for this trip and for my Mom to enjoy something different than a "business" type of hotel. The double queen rooms looked bright and airy by the pictures. My back up choices (to earn points) will be either be the Sheraton or Grand Hyatt.

I've stayed at the Monaco in Portland and Seattle. I like the one in Portland a lot, but the one in Seattle no so much.
For my taste, the Sheraton and the Grand Hyatt are better situated for everything one might want to do in downtown Seattle.

We stayed in the Seattle Hotel Monaco one night which happened to be the night of a basketball game down the street. Hotel guests were noisy all night, doors slamming, loud conversation, and hotel staff seemed unable to do anything about it. Check to make sure that there are no sports games (don't happen to know which sport is played in which season) when you're going to be there.
Room was nice enough, we had stepson with us and there was a separate "living room" with a pullout couch he slept on while we closed the drapes between the sleeping area and living area.

I am a big fan of Kimpton hotels everywhere. We stayed a week at the one in Seattle. It is a very nice hotel and I would stay there again. My only minor quibble is that no matter where you go from the hotel, it seems you are walking up hill a lot. The walk back to the hotel from the market is like a mountain climb. However, for one night this probably wouldn't effect your stay. Kimptons are very good about upgrading their guests. Be sure to join their free guest program before your visit.

I'm not crazy about the location within the downtown core. It's just a few blocks difference but I think a bit more north is more convenient. The area of the Sheraton and Grand Hyatt. Or better yet even a bit further like Mayflower Park and Hotel Andra.

We've stayed there a couple of times and liked it. I recall our room was small but the hotel was fun, colorful and met our needs just fine. We've also stayed at the Sheraton and the W. And the Edgewater (a holiday splurge).
