We're planning a family trip to Seattle this July and are looking for recommendations for an upscale hotel in the downtown area and also would love ideas for restaurants including a pre-game meal before a Mariner's game. We'll be traveling with our children, 8 and 12. They are adventurous eaters so the restaurants don't need to be that child friendly.

Restaurant: The obvious ones and Poppy on Capitol Hill. Very original and very good.

Hotel: Inn at the Market, Alexis, Hotel 1000, Four Seasons, or Fairmont Olympic.

Not overly upscale, but the Edgewater has some great room and a great location.
Restaurants - Steelhead Diner near Pike Place Market, Salt's on Alkali (not clsoe to the stadium however).

Four Seasons, Hotel 1000, Arctic Club, Olive 8, Fairmont Olympic, Inn at the Market, I think are all considered upscale hotels.

I think any of the Tom Douglas restaurants are very good... Dahlia Lounge, Serious Pie, Palace Kitchen, Etta's Seafood, Lola's. For Italian Assagio's or Il Bistro. at the Pike Place Market, Matt's at the Market, Maximillien's, Chez Shea.

Oh, or a couple really nice Italian places in Pioneer Square, which would be more convenient to the stadiums, Al Boccalino or Il Terazzo Carmine.

You could also look at the Hotel Monaco (a classy/funky Kimpton property across the street from the new library) which has a very good restaurant on the ground floor, Sazerac. http://www.monaco-seattle.com/

Or the Mayflower Park - http://www.mayflowerpark.com/ - which is very close to numerous restaurants around the downtown retail core, the Pike market, Belltown/Regrade etc.

Both hotels are close to light rail stations (University St. - about a block from the Monaco, and Westlake, adjacent to the Mayflower) which would make getting to/from the Mariners game (Stadium station) a piece of cake.

Gardyloo, You know I love the Mayflower Park and almost always recommend it as my favorite Seattle hotel. I just wasn't sure it is really considered "upscale" enough to fit this post? best, suze
