Seatle in September 19-22, Where to stay? Avg prices?

Hello, I'm heading to Seattle for the weekend from So. California and have no idea where to stay, I obviously want to stay in downtown area or near since we wont have car. What are my best options in where should I stay I don't want to pay arm and leg either? Is Seattle center a good option or union lake as well, as far as getting to downtown and the main sights? Thanks any help or advice would be appreciated. Also wanted to stay at Sheraton but for some reason its booked that weekend is there something going on??

I've been trying to find hotels as well and am having a difficult time. Maybe it's because of the cruise ship passengers ?

There is always a lot going on in Seattle in the summer, and the Sheraton is the closest hotel to the Washington State Convention Center where there is a meeting of 1,500 this weekend.

Fifth and Pine is at the heart of the retail and entertainment core. If you can't find a room at the Westin, the Warwick, the Hyatt, the Mayflower, the Roosevelt, the Grand Hyatt, Hotel Andra, etc., the Residence Inn, Courtyard, and Silver Cloud on Lake Union are good options.

I have also heard good things about The Maxwell Hotel on Lower Queen Anne Hill, which has good transportation to downtown. I believe they have rooms available at about $275 for the AAA rate. The Hampton Inn in the same area is a good place with breakfast thrown in.

The Holiday Inn Express and some of the other hotels near the Space Needle don't get very favorable reviews.

I stayed at the Hotel Vintage Kimpton in January 2013 and loved it--location great, not too far uphill, so walking back from the waterfront, etc., not a big issue. Close enough to the monorail, buses, etc.

They are showing rooms as low as $231 night when you want to stay. They have wine evenings and a good restaurant right in the hotel. Across from the unique Seattle Public Library.

Seattle's an expensive city. No way around that. What kind of price are you hoping to find a hotel room for? What do you consider "an arm and a leg"?

I can make some suggestions if I know what are hoping to find.

Seattle Center or Lake Union are OK, but obviously not as convenient as staying in the downtown core area.

Mediterranean Inn is a great location, it's just west of the Seattle Center up on Queen Anne Hill. And an easy shot to downtown.

Silver Cloud is fine but it's at Lake Union (north of downtown). You'd have to take a streetcar, bus, or taxi to get to downtown.

I don't know the 4 Points Sheraton, but it appears that is up by the Seattle Center as well (601 Roy Street) also on Queen Anne.

None of these are walking distance, for example, to the Pike Place Market, or the Waterfront, or Pioneer Square historic district.

The Mediterranean has the most pleasing location by far. It's in a nice neighborhood and it is very convenient for transportation and restaurants.

Four Points by Sheraton is rather new and it offers more for the money. Again, there are restaurants nearby, but it is in a neighborhood that's in transition. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is across the street.

Walking, both are about 1 1/2 miles from the retail core, but the walk from the Mediterranean is more pleasing.

The main problem I have with the Silver Cloud is that the only restaurants in the neighborhood that appeal to me are the expensive ones. The Mediterranean and Four Points are located near a variety of restaurants at all price levels.

Join Kimpton's Loyalty program for free and then get 20% off their hotels. It's a great program and they have several hotels in Seattle.

I've stayed at The Alexis twice and love it - great location.

Read about it here:

I stayed at the Mediterranean Inn. The rooms were comfortable and had a microwave and small fridge. At the front desk they can give you plates and plastic wear, and there is a large supermarket across the street where you can buy some things for breakfast or a snack if you want to eat in.
there is also a coin laundry
you can check to see if they have a discount for AAA/CAA or other categories

There are buses right down the street, and its a short ride to downtown. there are a lot of small restaurants in the immediate area .The neighborhood is fine. You can also walk to part of downtown..its about a 15-20 minute walk.

As DebitNM says join Kimpton hotel's free program and you will get offers for discounted stays.. the kimpton hotels are really nice but the price may be more than you want to pay

Have you looked into The Moore hotel? It's not fancy but it's clean, two blocks from Pike Market, and cost is $100 / night. If you are just looking for a convenient place to sleep then it should fit the bill.

Odds are they will be sold out on short notice, but could be worth checking out.

Alexis is wonderful but their rates are more like $350-$500/night. No way you'd get it for $200 even with discounts.

The Moore Hotel is a solid suggestion as long as you understand how basic it is. Excellent central location.

Have you checked MarQueen, it's another one up close to the Mediterranean Inn.

Silver Cloud is fine but it's at Lake Union (north of downtown). You'd have to take a streetcar, bus, or taxi to get to downtown.

They also have a free local area shuttle - Seattle Center, downtown, etc. And free parking, if you wanted a car for a day to see something out of the downtown area.

Anything special you're looking for? Seattle is a huge urban area, there's thousands of restaurants.

In the broadest sweep of the brush I'd guess I'd say "do not miss" in Seattle includes:

Pike Place Market
Space Needle/Seattle Center
Olympic Sculpture Park
Pioneer Square historic district
the Waterfront

We stayed at the Hotel Maxwell as mentioned by an earlier poster.
It was a fantastic hotel right near the Space Needle area.
Rooms were clean and very comfortable and I don't remember it being too expensive.
