Seafood Restuarants in New Orleans Area

Coming to New Orleans in mid-April. Has anyone any suggestions on seafood restaurants in New Orleans and surrounding area. Anyone tried Mortons in Madisonville or Sid-Mars in Metairie? Are there any good cajun or creole seafood dishes at many of the N.O. restaurants? Any help would be appreciated? Maybe John has some suggestions!

Adding to the above, has anyone stayed lately at the Hotel Intercontinental on St. Charles Ave? Heard they were renovating it, and wondering if its a torn up mess. Planning on staying there on our trip.

Jane, I'm no expert on the New Orleans scene like John however, the restaurant I like the best and would go back to in a heart beat is N.O.L.A.'s. (i'm can't remember the address off hand) Food and service were both fantastic and at the advise of some locals, we ordered the "catch of the day" and it was fresh and fantastic. The oysters with New Orleans sauce were terrific and that was my first experience with oysters!

Gallatoire's, Brennan's, ACME Oyster Bar, K-Pauls. Enjoy!

I love Deanie's in Metairie (I know it's way too fried and artery-clogging but I still love it!), Redfish Grill and Marisol on Esplanade. You can almost always find at least one (and usually more) seafood dishes on local restaurant menus so don't feel like you have to go to a seafood-specific place.

The place being talked about a lot these days is GW Fins, an upscale seafood place opening behind the Chateau Sonesta. Grand opening is next week.

Definitely NOLA's!! My husband and I went to New Orleans last year and were given many recommendations from a friend, who was doing his residency, there. NOLA's is one of Emeril Lagasse's restuarants and my husband had a seafood dish, and I had the swordfish. They were both delicious. Just don't go to Arnaud's unless you want to spend an extraordinary amount of money for very little food!!!

In addition to the places mentioned, you should eat at the Veranda room in the Hotel Intercontinental. I love their food. They will have seafood on the menu as all restaurants normally have a seafood selection. It is great for Sunday Brunch.

I don't recommend NOLA anymore. All of the Emeril's restaurants have let fame go to their head. And with his TV show, they are busier than ever with hordes of tourists. For the same amount of money you can get better meals at Bayona, Pelican Club, Peristyle, etc.

This month's Bon Apetite (ravioli is on the cover) has New Orleans restaurants featured in an article with listings on their recommendations.

My husband and I had a very disappointing meal at NOLA. Our food was barely edible, and I can find nothing whatsoever favorable to say about the restaurant other than the service was good.

NOLA, DelMonico, Emeril's-all owned by him. Good but pricey. May as well spring for Comanders Palace. For value, the locals go to Deanies. Nothing fancy, but my husband is a "YAT" & that's where we always have to go for seafood. Market adjacent to take some home.

We've enjoyed NOLA in the past, but we cancelled our reservation last Dec after looking at the posted menu. NOLA is good, but probably not worth $30 entrees.

Thanks for all of your help, John, Julie and the rest of you. I've been monitoring Johns suggestions to people questions on Fodors and it seems to me he really gives great help for people about New Orleans!!! Again thanks.
