The natives start catching them in the Columbia River starting in mid May. Salmon are caught in rivers and not from the Pacific Ocean.
There are much better things to do in Cannon Beach than look for a seafood restaurant. Go see Haystack rock.

List some of them.
Looking for a seafood restaurant is one of my favorite things to do wherever I am.
Twenty years ago we liked the Wayfarer for an honest meal of fresh fish but they jacked up the prices to high that it took the fun out of going there for us. (Fish and Chips are $27 on the dinner menu.)

huh, Cannon Beach is pretty small with not a lot to do IMO. I stayed there a couple days as a base, but didn't spend my entire days at Cannon Beach. What I really enjoyed was going north and visiting the historical camp/park of Lewis and Clark and the Columbia River maritime museum in Astoria. That museum was fantastic. I did that trip one day.
I think the top seafood restaurants are the Wayfarer and Driftwood in Cannon Beach. Not sure there are any others that specialize in that right there, although most restaurants have some seafood on the menu. Driftwood is cheaper. I ate there and thought it was fine, but can't compare to the other one, but suspect not everyone will agree as to which one is the best or best value. If you're there a while you can try both.

We enjoy the Wayfarer as well as the Lumberyard (same owners). We have had salmon at both that was very good, and we rarely eat salmon when eating out since DH fishes for it so we have it fresh or in our freezer. But both of these places do it well. Bills Tavern has a really good seafood stew as well as fish n chips if that interests you at all.
