Sea kayaking day trip from Seattle
Hello, all,
We have a few days in Seattle and are interested in doing a day or half-day sea kayaking trip. Seems like there are lots of companies that offer tours, but do any of these tours include pick-up in Seattle? We're wondering if we can do this without renting a car. Ideally, we'd love to kayak around the San Juan islands, but we'd also like to hear about tours that are closer to Seattle.
Any thoughts? Thanks!!

Well, if you don't want to rent a car and drive, you could always fly to Friday Harbor (Kenmore Air) and do the Outdoor Odysseys day trip--I've done it a couple times and always enjoy it (got to see orcas from a kayak one time which was very cool).
I know the NW Outdoors Center rents kayaks on Lk Union in Seattle and while it can be cool to paddle around the houseboats, it's not the same as being up in the islands.

You can also rent kayaks at Alki Beach in W. Seattle, and go on a tour with those folks. http://www.kayakalki.com/
You might want to talk with them about options. Blake Island is very cool- a marine park, but it looks like it is an overnight trip.

You can also rent kayaks or take a classes or guided tour on Bainbridge Island, a 30-minute ferry ride from downtown Seattle and easily reached without a car:

Or go the UW and rent from Aqua Verde Paddle Club; you can paddle through the Montlake Cut and into the area around the arboretum.
You could also contact the Outdoor Center and see if they are offering one-day trips fro thee to elsewhere, like the San Juans.
