My husband and I have the weekend to see the fall leaves outside of St. Louis, MO. I heard that route 64 to 94 (along the river) would be beautiful. I'm thinking of driving to Hermann from St. Louis, but all the B&Bs there seem to be filled (or they want more than one night's stay). Any suggestions for lodging in another town?

It's Oktoberfest now, so that is why things are booked i imagine. Did you try Washington Mo? It is about 25-30 miles east of Hermann, is also on the river.
For driving to look at trees, 94 west of Hermann is really pretty too, all the way to Jefferson city. If you drive as far west as the tiny town of Portland, you will see some pretty bluffs.
Thanks aloha! I'm really looking forward to seeing the fall colors. My husband and I used to ride around Lancaster, PA, every fall after we first got married. Now, we live in an area that is green all year round (which is also nice).
When do you plan to do this drive? I think the colors have peaked already. Oct 26-28 should still be fairly colorful, but after that , the colors will be fading as more leaves fall. And be prepared for a lot of yellow, there is not a lot of deep red in MO. Nice fall weather forecast this weekend, sunny with the high in the 50s.
There is still some magnificent color here, but also some completley bare trees. I think it would still be ok if this trip hasnt happened yet.
I can report that along the river west of Hermann there are very few trees that still have leaves at all. High winds over the weekend de-leafed many trees that had been holding some color. In town there may be ornamentals that still have color, if the wind didn't get to them.

Whenever the fall color ends, the next fun reason to go to Hermann is the various Christmas festivities
Likely you've taken your little drive already and can tell us what you saw. Now it may be a little late for foliage although when were in Missouri recently people said it was a good year.
For future reference on out further west in the state we very much enjoy Arrow Rock as a little unknown spot. Boonvile also. Last month we were to the SW of St.Louis (YMCA Trout Lodge-Potosi) and impressed by scenery. See my trip report on "Middle America in October." Even around here we've seen bright red leaves.
Bill in Boston
More future reference - any winding roadways around the Van Buren, Eminance, Alley Springs corridor there will be quite pretty around mid to late October
