Savannah Itinerary Feedback Please
DH and I will be going to Charleston and Savannah for a week this fall--end of October/beginning of November. We love history and museums and are big foodies. We tend to go strong from 9-4 ish and then go back to rest up before dinner. We can manage about one house tour per city. We don't do shopping for the most part. We have lodging in VRBOs (with parking) so we are good there.
We will drive from Charleston to Savannah on Wednesday afternoon/evening. And our plane leaves out of Charleston at 5:00 on Saturday. (so we should leave Savannah by 1:00??)
Thursday: Owens-Thomas House, Savannah History Museum, Civil Rights Museum, some churches. We will be walking to all of these places. We are staying near Columbia Square. What I would like to do is to get a "Walking Guide to Savannah" type map/self-guided tour at the Visitors Center. But if you look at the central/historic zone of Savannah it appears we are on one end and the Visitors Center is on the other. I guess we can just walk there first thing, get the map and then go to see the places noted above.
Friday: Old Fort Jackson, Fort Polaski. I would really like to go to the Pin Point Heritage Museum but it looks like it is a bit of a drive from the others. Is it worth it? Is it really not too far (less than an hour)? If it is, then we would probably go see the Tybee Island Marine Sciences Center.
Saturday: Not sure. Would like to do a tour at the First African Baptist Church at 11 am. Need to check to see if that day and time are still current. And then leave by 1:00??
The 2 places I might like to shop are: Farm, which is a taster for cheeses, wines etc. yum. And the SCAD supposedly has an awesome gift shop.
Food
Dinners: So we have 3 nights Weds, Thurs, Fri. I am looking at the following places:
Elizabeth on 37th (tasting menu, large wine list)
Local 11ten
Sapphire Grille
Nobel Fare
45 Bistro
22 Square
For lunch, we are happy to grab a sandwich and go. Some places did look like they might be worth seeking out though:
Angels BBQ
Johnny Harris BBQ
B Matthews Eatery
Brighter Day
And when we go out to see the Forts, we definitely want to look for Wileys Championship BBQ
Any ideas or modifications you would suggest based on what we like would be appreciated. Thanks!

Here's a map of the free shuttle service:
http://www.connectonthedot.com/wp-co...2015_11x17.pdf
If you walk a couple of blocks to E. Broughton Street, you can catch the free "DOT" shuttle, and it will take you very close to the Visitor's Center. It will also drop you right at the Savannah History Museum.
Can't help with the rest--we visited Forts Jackson and Pulaski, but it was years ago, and we aren't foodies.
Have a great time.

Near the visitor center is the Scarborough House and the Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum. Savannah has a rich maritime history, both the first ship equipped with steam engine and nuclear engine were named after the city; (S/S Savannah, N/S Savannah).
Vics on the River is good spot for lunch, if you are lucky and get a window table you can watch the harbor traffic.
We had dinner at 700 Drayton, the service was impeccable and the food was good as well.
The hotel next door has a cute hat museum.

I personally would adjust my travel schedule to travel between the two cities via Beaufort. It is lovely, charming, and very different from either. Leave Savannah early, lunch in Beaufort, go on to CHS.
