Santa Fe for Thanksgiving?

We're thinking of a long weekend in Santa Fe over Thanksgiving this year - probably staying at Bishop's Lodge. Any input on activities, weather to expect, etc for that time of year? Our main goal is to just get a relaxed time away with family. Thanks

We went to Santa Fe for Thanksgiving about 6-7 years ago. We enjoyed it very much. It snowed for two days while we were there. I can't really recommend any activities other than sight seeing - that's all we did. We went to what I remember as being their downtown area and walked around a bit in the snow. We did some shopping with some local merchants, but mostly we just relaxed for the weekend.

At that time of year, You can expect days into the 40s F and nights in the teens or single digits. Bring layers, including warm woolen or fleece clothes, waterproof boots, gloves and a hat. It's definitely worth staying somewhere with a hot tub.

You may be able to ski by then. The plaza is nice, as are tours of various older buildings, and going to galleries on Canyon Road.

Couple of thoughts-
1) day trip to Taos. Not that Taos is any great shakes (compared to Santa Fe), but the drive IS NOT to be missed. Try to hit the drive back at sunset. Wow.
2) Head down to Madrid. Sleepy little town with a few shops. best place to eat there is the Lost Mine Tavern. Superb Blue Cheese hamburger.
3) day trip to Bandelier. Great hiking, and pretty nice cliff dwellings.
4) Puye Indian Cliff Dwellings - not too far away. I find these Indian sites more impressive than Bandelier.
5) drive out to Abiquio. Once again, it's more about the drive than about a destination.
Weather should be crisp, but who knows anymore.
Have a blast.
Santa Fe is a great and wonderful place.
(By the way - have breakfast at Tesuque Market. It's a little way past the Bishop's Lodge, heading away from Santa Fe.)
Once again - have fun
