Santa Barbara Q's
I will be at the 4 Seasons/Santa Barbara for 2 weeks. I have been all over CA, but never SB and have a few q's.
#1 What is the closest airport w/o flying right into SB? I'm thinking of sending my husband out while i'm there and would like to be able to consider a larger airport - he'll love the drive. Or, I have read the board a bit and have seen a "train" mentioned. Is there such a thing to fly into an airport and take a train to SB?
2) All of the reviews that I have read on this board say to skip Channel Islands - I saw a documentary highlighting the area and it looked gorgeous. Does anyone have any positive feedback regarding the islands?
This will get me started...thanx in advance for everyone's input.

1. Burbank and LAX are the closest major airports. There is an Amtrak station right next to the Burbank airport that runs to Santa Barbara. I'm sure there is a public transportation method to get to the train from LAX but I don't know it.

Lucky you... that's a beautiful property. Your best bet is probably to have him fly into LAX and take the Central Coast Shuttle...it goes from LAX to SB four times a day and is fairly inexpensive... much less than flying into Burbank or SB. The rain is probably doable... but why hassle with that when you can have the shuttle pick you right up and drop you right off? ( I believe the stop is at the Sb airport though.) www.centralcoastshuttle.com

Another bus going from LAX to SB seven times a day is the Santa Barbara Airbus. The cost runs $42-46, depending on advance payment. It will take 2 1/2 to 3 hours.

From Burbank Airport, the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner leaves 5 times a day.
The cost is $23. The Amtrak stop is about 1/4 mile from the airport, and the airport also has a shuttle. Easy walk. The train station in SB is in the center of town.
