Santa Barbara - Four Seasons vs San Ysidro Ranch with rate factor

Hi,

Is the San Ysidro Ranch worth twice as much as the Four Seasons in terms of room rates? Thinking of taking my wife for a 2 or 3 nights stay before we commence the business side of our trip elsewhere.

The cheapest room for our dates at the SYR is the Junior Suite tier 1 while the FS has the regular rooms for a third of the price. Or perhaps the Simpson House Inn?

Appreciate your advice and thank you in advance!

Hello,

My name is James and I am responding to your post on behalf of the Simpson House Inn. Since we are the first and only 5 diamond bed and breakfast in North America, we can offer a truly memorable experience no matter what the occassion. For more information including best available rates and updated photos of our guest rooms, please visit our website: www.simpsonhouseinn.com
Further, please feel free to see what others have to say about the Simpson House Inn on Tripadvisor:

My wife just spent three nights at the Canary Hotel in SB, and loved the place.

She said it was very convenient to all of the downtown restaurants.

My wife loved the beauty of the hotel itself, and her room.

The SYR is up in the hills, lovely place, and the Four Seasons is by the ocean so you might prefer one location over the other. Be aware that the train tracks are right behind the Four Seasons if requesting a room location there.

Thank you all for your replies. Found the same questions asked on TA with several comments or replies there that are useful.

Now I must "hunt" the web for the best rate!

Hi Hanuman, I rarely come to the US board but stopped by and found you here. The San Ysidro Ranch is a special occasion kind of place, super romantic, your own paradise in the woods. The Biltmore is more traditional five-star resorty, across the street from the ocean, but not right on the water - you need to use their beach club...lots of families, completely different vibe. Both have excellent service, but the SYR has more charm and is more of a "once in a lifetime" destination, especially when compared to the "regular" rooms at the Biltmore. Bottom line: you can't go wrong with either, but SYR is the winner if price doesn't matter and if you don't care about being near the beach.

Hi crosscheck!

Thank you for your input. After much research and emailing the SYR I've decided that we will definitely be staying with them. So far I've planned it like this:

Arrive at LAX around 2.30PM and be out in our rental car by 3.30PM.
Drive 2 hours to Santa Barbara estimate time of arrival by 5.30 or 6.00PM if I don't take the "scenic" route.
First 2 nights at the FS and follow by 2 more nights at the SYR.
Back to LA and commence the business part of my trip.

I know my way around LA but I am not sure about how much jetlag I will have for the drive to SB! Appreciate if you, or anyone, will let me know if the 2 hours is doable around that time of day on a weekday as well.

Smart choice going to both - will be a heavenly trip. You should be able to make it from LAX to SB in two hours. There will be traffic on the 405N, though nothing like Bangkok! If you have a GPS, you might also consider the scenic route - Lincoln Blvd N to Caifornia Ave (left) to PCH (Rt1 N) through Malibu to 101N - less traffic and will also take two hours.

If you need more tips (restaurants, etc.), some of the Asia board regulars know my email or you can contact me on TA @studiojr.

Thank you crosscheck. Glad to hear that if we stick to the PCH it will not take that much longer.

Hit the road out of Los Angeles as soon as possible. Sign up for the rental cars "get the keys and drive" pre-payment or whatever to speed things up. 3pm is a lot different than 4pm when you're talking about the 101 northbound in the afternoons.
