The MAIN reason my family is being drawn to Sanibel this year is for the shells (my young teen girls love 'em!). So if a particular hotel, even humble, offers good/best walking access to San-Cap beach, that's what I would look into... I understand legal parking is a pain in the butt). Also someone on the boards suggested that you needed passes for this beach...how to get?

One of the main shelling spots is Blind Pass which is at the San/Cap Bridge. There are accomadations located right on the beach and across the street on the bay side. I have never stayed in them however.

They would be very close to great shelling.
Parking is limited at the Blind Pass parking lot. You do not need a pass. Never heard of that.... You do have to pay for parking. We have had to wait for parking a few times but not for very long luckily.
