San Francisco to Yosemite and possibly Big Sur
We are planning a trip to CA Aug. 2nd to the 9th 2014. We have reservations for the Starlite house in Yosemite Bug for the week, but I am thinking we might stay less time there and travel to Big Sur. Do we have the time?? Also, what do you suggest we absolutely see in San Francisco, Yosemite and along the coast?

Flying in/out of SFO or some other airport? Since you have the reservation, go straight to the BUG hostel (We've stayed there).
Go to see what you want to see in SF before you fly out. Renting a car downtown is cheaper than at the airport facility.
After the Rim fire, you may be disappointed with what the west side of Yosemite looks like.
The water flow over the waterfalls is less than optimal in August.

Yes, we are flying in/out of SFO. Thanks for the tip on renting a car!
Any suggestions on what to see/do in SF, Yosemite, Big Sur? There are 7 of us- all adult children and we are very active.

For places to see in San Francisco, look at StuDudley's posts.
For food in SF, look at the plethora of previous posts on restaurants.
The rim fire is about 40% contained and Hiway 120 is still closed.
For Big Sur, you'll probably stay in Monterey or Carmel. Check those posts out.

Thanks. I do have StuDudley's posts of San Francisco and I have checked the posts for Big Sur. I'm not sure about the length of time for each place. Now I'm wondering if we should just stay in the Yosemite area and see Sequoia NP and skip the coast?? Should we save that for another trip? I do not want this to be a rushed vacation.
What do people think about spending a couple of days in San Francisco and the rest in Yosemite with a side trip to Sequoia??
