san francisco to yachats
My wife and I are looking to spend 3-4 days in the yachats area, but will be driving up from San Francisco. Any itinerary ideas for the drive? We are into seeing the redwoods, beaches, eating of course and scenery...one overnight preferable...Thanks
Thank you

I only know driving times ==
SF to Eureka about 5 hrs via 101
Eureka to Bandon OR. about another 3 1/2 hrs UNLESS you stop to see the Redwoods ( which you MUST do). Two areas to see the trees is Avenue of the Giants which is sort of a "frontage road" off of 101 between Phillipsville and Weott
and area just south of Crescent City
Maybe other posters will give opinions of which area is the most beautiful !!!)
Bandon to Yachats is about 2 hrs.,however we always take at least 3 hrs. as we stop to see the great coast views..
Also on the way back to SF we often cross over to Highway 5 at Reedsport into Roseburg area and are home in about 6-7 hrs..
Have a great trip...

The trip up along US 101 does go through the redwood groves. Some of them are very impressive. if you are doing the drive in warm weather, I suggest not doing it on a weekend because traffic can be tremendous.
It took us all day and into the night to drive from just north of Crescent City to a motel near the airport.
Often the traffic would just come to a stop because of tie ups.
The drive in Oregon north along the coast highway is spectacular. There are wide beaches and rocky headlands with pounding surf. At Cape Perpetua the rock rises almost straight up out of the ocean to a height of 1,000 feet or more.
There is a drive up to the top for a spectacular view of the coastal area.
At Yachats, I remember walking down to the rocky headlands and watching the waves pound ashore with huge splashes and a roaring noise as the big ones splashed into the rocks.
I find the drive beautiful and enchanting. You get some of the best of nature in several ways.
I would plan on one overnight before Yachats. Otherwise, you will be driving too much and missing too much.
