San Francisco - microbreweries/tea shops/dim sum

Hello all,
I'm returning to San Francisco. It'll be my fourth visit. I'd like to eat good dim sum, go to a tea shop for afternoon tea ('English' or one of those 'trendy' Chinese/Japanese places - either will do) and also drink some good ale in welcoming, lively (but not raucously deafening!) places. Also, is dimsum eaten during the day or is it OK to eat it early evening?
We are coming in late June and are staying near to the Painted Ladies.
Finally, what is the Owl Bar like? I am adventurous and broad minded, so if it is slightly divey and a little outre, as I have heard it might be, that'll do me.
(BTW, the owl picture outside that bar looks very like an infamous image of Britain's roundly hated and most infamous murderess, Myra Hyndley.Do a search if you are aware of either!)
Thanks for your help,

Nigello

The Hotel Frank is my place of rest in S Fran - 386 Geary Street
San Francisco, CA 94102. Maybe it was nowhere near the Painted Ladies to which I so inaccurately referred.
I'll have a look at the places you mentioned. If there are any new places that haven't yet featured in the older threads, please let me know.

Elephant & Castle is a good pub downtown -- it's on Clay Street near the Embarcadero.
