My husband and I have the opportunity to spend a weekend at either of these two hotels and are having trouble deciding which to choose. Which is closest to Powell-Hyde cable car stop? The Palace would cost just a little more than the SF Marriott.
SAN FRANCISCO MARRIOTT OR PALACE??

Lucky you. Both great hotels for different reasons. The Marriott is closer to the Powell/Hyde line: Moscone Center, Museum of Modern Art and Sony's Metreon at the Yerba Buena Center. Do your homework because the Marriott is considered the #1 convention hotel and can get crowded when there is an event at the Moscone Center.
I like the Sheraton Palace because it reminds me of the splendor of SF's past. Lot's of history at the hotel and the "Garden Court" for brunch is a SF classic. It's located on Market Street between 2nd and 3rd. Not as close to the Powell-Hyde Cable Car stop but only a few blocks from the cleaner more accessible California Cable Car line at the Embarcadero. They intersect at the top of California and Powell streets. The Powell-Hyde is packed with tourist and bum's looking for tourist. Right across the street from the Palace is the Montgomery station (underground) so you can catch BART trains or MUNI Metro streetcars so you can explore the city and region. The Palace is a great choice.
I agree that the Palace is a wonderful hotel. The lobby is classic turn of the century, San Francisco. The Marriott is a Marriott!
The Palace is the one...Don't even think
of the Marriott.
