Trip Ideas
I know its not in the choices, but I enjoyed the Argonaut. It was very nice. I have heard good things about Sir Frances Drake but haven't heard about King George.
We stayed near the Argonaut for an event (it was too expensive for us) but it was beautiful. Not familiar with the other two...sorry
I'd rather stay across the street from the Drake at the Hotel Chancellor.
I always stay at the Sir Francis Drake. It is very well located and comfortable. Rooms are small due to the historic building but quite adequate and comfortable.
My recollection is the King George is a step down in "star quality" from the Sir Francis Drake or the Chancellor.
BTW, the Argonaut is in Fisherman's Wharf area. The hotels the OP is asking about are in the Union Square area.
sf7307, I wasn't meaning to confuse the OP, just mention a place I stayed and and could recommend. You're right though and I should have mentioned that in case the OP wants to be in the Union Square area and is not just asking hotels.
write, I wasn't "complaining", just wanted the OP to know.
Thanks for the replies. 1800Hotels.com offers a room for $66 US at Sir Frances Drake. Sounds like a good deal. Has anyone dealt with 1800 Hotels.com?
sf, I didn't think you were complaining. It was important to point out that the OP was asking about a different area in case they weren't just questioning hotels but wanted to stay in that area so that they knew that my suggestion was not where they were looking. I think I said that right, lol.
Sir Francis Drake (note spelling) is a much nicer hotel than the King George and a true gem of SF>
1800Hotels is a service that charges you UPFRONT for your rooms. If you need to cancel for any reason there is a cancellation fee of between 20% TO 100% OF YOUR BOOKING. If oyu are sure of your dates oyu can get some very good deals BUT - you get a voucher to bring to the hotel. In some rare cases hotels do not have the rooms you have booked. If you book through them ALWAYS call the hotel directly to confirm and get the HOTEL'S confirmation number.
i don't mean to scare you away. It's a good service but you have to double check everything .
