Went to San Francisco and had a great time. Thanks to all the fodorites out there who contributed sugggestions and recommendations. I get to go again and need help with inexpensive places in the Moscone Center/Union Square area for dinner. Inexpensive for me is $25 for dinner. Looking for Italian, Mexican, and a decent steak place. I'm looking for local places that aren't a chain (or could be a chain based in CA only).

Colibri is very popular and moderately priced.

For Italian, you might go a little away from Moscone/Union Square (but not far) to Barbacco (on California Street) -- it's the casual version of Perbacco, which is next door. I'd also recommend Zero Zero on Folsom at 4th Street (very good pizza and pasta, haven't had other dishes).

Im not sure you'll be able to find a steak dinner in the city for your price (unless that's just the price of your entree, and even then, it might be hard).
Moscone center and Union Sq are 2 areas, you know that right?
Italian in Union Square - up on Bush and powell a short walk is Uncle Vito's a step above hole in the wall, very clean and great staff, with good pizza but really nice pastas.
Moscone Center has a lot of places nearby but not right there - you might try the cafe at MOMA, or Brick House Cafe some blocks away
Barbaccoooooooo

Kuleto's on Powell about a block from UnSq is still good Italian.
