Message: My boyfriend and I are traveling to San Francisco and California Wine Country the first week of September. We have plotted our course up the coast and into wine country. We plan to spend nights in Jenner, Mendocino, Lake Sonoma, St. Helena and Sausalito. Can anyone offer good recommendations for lodging and dining in these areas? Also, in SF what are some of the must see places?? We will be spending two days in San Francisco and would like to take in as much as possible. All recommendations are appreciated!

As far as the wine country I just spent 3 days visiting this area last month. Stayed in Napa at the Best Western on Hwy 37 very nice rooms. lots of winerys to visit can't see them all. You have to stop at V. Sattui winery in St. Helena self guided tour. Great wines and they take a personal touch in the wine tasting. Especially if you get there early within a hour of opening 9:30a If you don't mind tasting wine in the morning. as the goes no they get crowded. They also have a little deli and picnic area. There wines aren't sold anywhere except there. Award winning wines. We ended up buying a case. We were told about this place from a friend whose daughter lives in the area. Also a ballon ride is unreal. Try to get a visitors giude at a Ca. welcome station on Napa Valley they have some good discounts. $50.00 off which then is about $135 p.p. some can run up tp $250 p.p. Loding in Sausalito is expensive. small town just across the G.G. bridge We tried therekeep driving until we got to Napa, only about 45 mins. from Sausalito. But once in the Napa Valley area plenty of place to stay.
we prefered to stay at calistoga which is the end of napa valley. cottage grove inn was very nice. french laundry, terra, pinot blanc, the diner and oakville grocer were fantastic. call ahead for a tour at opus, comes with a glass of wine. rivers end restaurant was good with a beautiful view russian river and the ocean. reservation to be seated by the window. inn above the tide in sausalito ok, casa madrona better. mikayla and ondine were nice. make sure you make restaurant reservationsor eat early, especially in sf. have fun!
for Napa go to www.napavalley.com In Jenner try Timber Cove Inn at www.timbercoveinn.com Bodega Bay is close by as well. Also look at www.sf-visitors.org You need to get moving on reservations right now. Many places will have 2 night minimums.
