San Francisco 12 itinerary early Oct
12 day honeymoon in California flying into and out of San Francisco. Am planning my itinerary based on all the great tips I've found here.
We're looking for a mix of City, National Park and beach with an emphasis on quality rather than quantity. In other words, not too much driving... only taking in the highlights. We're big foodies and enjoy a bit of walking/exercise thrown in. Here is what I have so far. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. (Oh and I'm Irish and so have no concept of distance!)
Four nights in SF. Drive south along the coast. We wanted to go as far as Santa Barbara, taking in the wine country down there. I know its cheesy but I loved Sideways! Is this a massive drive? Is it worth going to SB or is Santa Cruz as good for beach vibe?
Really want take in Yosemite for 2-3 days as our last stop before we head back to SF. I've read the coast drive from South to North is better for views. Whats the best route for driving inland to Yosemite?
I've some really good threads on SF, Yosemite etc. which I will carry like a bible during my trip. Thankyou in advance. Sio

You might be interested in the Elderberry House near Yosemite.

Yep - last 2 weeks of Sept & first two of October are our best weather. It really won't be laying on the beach weather, however. Just no-fog, mid-warmth, and clear. Feweer tourists, too. Heatwave starting tomorrow.

This Oct ? 2009 ?
Do you have all your reservations, especially for Yosemite ?
That asked, I don't know if there is a "best route" to get back up to Yosemite. I-5 would be fast and you could cut over
at 152 to 99 and then Merced and take 40 into the park.
Or you could head back up on 101 to San Luis Obispo and catch 41 just north of SLO and take that in to the park-this would be slower, yet more scenic than I-5. Depends on where you are staying, inside or outside of Yosemite.
Congrats, BTW ! - our anniversary is in October.
