San francisco -Beach Chalet restaurant
Hi
Can anyone please tell me the best way to get to the Beach Chalet Restuarant from Fisherman Wharf area. We need to arrive at about7pm on Saturday. Is a taxi the best option or can we take a bus? And what about returning. Thanks in advance

Consider taking a ferry from FW or the
Ferry Bldg. over to Tiburon or Sausalito. www.blueandgold.com - or -
goldengateferry.com. There are many restaurants where you can dine on the water. If you want to see the ocean and are carless, you could go over to Chrissy Field from FW and have a lovely stroll. If you don't mind excellent vegetarian food-you could book a table at Greens in the Ft. Mason complex-views are good! Other great views are out at the Legion of Honor-you'll see the Marin Headlands and the "west" side of the GG Bridge. If you keep going in that
direction-you will come to Ocean Beach-
and the Cliff House (which may still be under renovation?-yet I think you can eat there?). Others will know the current state of the Cliff House better than I.

If it's a nice day, my very first suggestion would be to take the ferry or drive to Tiburon and have dinner at Guaymas. About the same price as Beach Chalet, food is an order of magnitude better. Also, you can actually look out onto the water.
Beach Chalet's other dirty little secret (aside from the cruddy food) is that because you're looking straight out west the sunset burns in, and they have to pull the blinds. You can't really see the ocean due to the window shades if it's before sunset.
Unfortunately, food at the Cliff House is not markedly better than the Beach Chalet.
If it's foggy, it really doesn't matter where you eat, there won't be any views.

We just had Breakfast at the Cliff house yesterday and it was great, though pricey. It's under renovation but we weren't bothered by it. I'd recommend a reservation for dinner, the sunset from their dining room would be awesome! Guymas or Sams Cafe in Tiburon woudl also be nice.

The food and service are pretty bad , the beer is ok but the WPA murals are beautiful. It's worth a stop to see the murals if you are in the area but eat somewhere else. In California we have saying "the better the view the worst the food" not always true of coarse but beware.
