San Fran Family Friendly Hotel near BART

The more I research San Fransisco hotels the more confused I get! Here is what I am looking for: a moderate hotel, easily accesible from the BART and other mass transportation for Mom and two boys ages 5 & 7 for November weekend fun. Recomendations please!

Any of the major hotels on Union Square would be close to the Powell Street BART station. Ditto the Four Seasons and the Palomar on Market Street. If you are at the Embarcadero Hyatt, the Embarcadero BART station is right by the Ferry Building. The Financial District, where the Omni and Mandarin are, is serviced by the Montgomery BART stations. All these stations are within minutes walking of each other.

If access to BART is important to you on this trip, DO NOT consider Fisherman's Wharf, Lombard Street, or North Beach as a lodging base. You'll have to take a bus and transfer to get to any BART station.

We always stay at Columbus Motor Inn because parking is included in the bargain rates....not really walking distance to Bart but the kids love taking the cable car and we don't really take the Bart anywhere. No pool however.

sandiego. Check out the Villa Florence Hotel. It is on Powell St., one half block from Union Square and just a couple of blocks up from Market St., and the Powell/Stockton St. BART station. My grandson refuses to stay anywhere else when I take him to SF.
It is a fantastic location, smaller hotel, always have been pleased with the staff. They even have a hosted wine event in their lounge early in the evenings you could enjoy and your sons can have a beverage too. Powell St., cable car runs right past the hotel. And you can catch the F Streetcar on Market which will take you down Market, around the Embarcadero to Fisherman's Wharf also. Think this only cost $1.00
per person. Besides all the shops, restaurants around Union Sq., right across Market St. is the SF Center which has Nordstroms, many other shops etc. Easy walk to Chinatown, The Metreon, etc.
I always find the room rates at the Villa Florence to be a good value.
Welcome to San Francisco!

Just a note -

Muni fares are $1.25 a ride now (transfers included). Keep those quarters handy.

Cable cars are a separate, more expensive fare (don't know exactly how much, since I purchase a monthly pass).

BART fares vary by distance from your starting point. There are charts by the ticket vending machines which will help you figure it out.

Union square is a good suggestion. I was at the King George last weekend which is a very small hotel, but the service was great and the price was even better. I could walk to everything. So many hotels options in that area. Great place to stay if you are thinking about shopping and seeing a show too.

FYI. I am constantly surprised about the homeless situation in San Francisco and the Union Square area especially. It is near the tenderloin which is the bad part of town.

I still had a wonderful time and San Fran remains one of my favorite places!!
