San Diego to Oceanside Via Coast Train

Good Morning, I would appreciate a first hand report from anyone that has taken the Coaster Train from SD to Oceanside. I found one post where someone had recommended this, and have read a couple of guide books that recommend it, but would appreciate a little bit more information before we take the time to do this. Questions are: Is the ride pretty? I see it runs along Hwy. 101. Once we reach the Oceanside Transit Center, it appears (from the San Diego North web page, we will be able to walk to the ocean, pier, shops, restaurants, etc. So, any and all information and tips would be appreciated! I have done it several times ( well not all the way to Oceanside- but to Carlsbad.) The ride is very pretty I think - some of it is inland of course but the part along the ocean is beautiful- you should be able to walk around Oceanside easily from the train
station although I would recommend walking around Carlsbad instead- much nicer town in my opinion and lots of nice restaurants, easy walk to the beach from the train station.
My daughter used to live in Carlsbad and I even used the coaster to go to the airport from her place- easy and inexpensive.

sunbum1944, Thanks for the info! This sounds like a fun day. I'll pull some information on Carlsbad and look at that. I think we will just give the Coaster train a try - towards the end of the trip after we have completed our "have to do items"....... Vacationmom

I did an easy day trip 2 years ago, from Oceanside to San Diego and back via the Coaster. It was quick and very relaxing. Much easier than driving and parking.

Solano Beach could be a fun stop too if you like to shop -- check out the Cedros Design district - also a very short walk from the train station.
