San Diego to Monterey, Morro Bay, Solvang - places to stay

Hi everyone - Thanks in advance to anyone who answers this! I am planning a short road trip from San Diego to Monterey (and back) with stops to/from Monterey, Morro Bay (Hearst Castle) and Solvang. I'm a single woman traveling and looking for a good place to stay in each city that's not too expensive but safe. Any recommendations for places to stay/eat along the way would also be appreciated! Thanks!! :) Kristine
