San Diego Shopping Help Needed

Hello,

We will be visiting our son who now makes his home in San Diego over Thanksgiving and one of the things we plan to do is buy him some much needed bedroom furniture.

He has heard or seen the ads for Jeromes - so that will be one place we will take a look. Any comments pro or con on Jeromes from the locals. Also please suggest other furniture stores that you like. We want to get him something decent but as always looking for value for our money.

We have not seen our son since Christmas so we are looking forward to this mini vacation.

Thanks for any help you can offer pertaining to shopping for furniture.

Sandy

Hi SandyBrit..
Jerome's has great deals on furniture and they have been around for along time here in SD..in fact, I just bought a bedroom set from them a couple of weeks ago it was listed for $999 for a 6 piece set and it was espresso finish hardwood and for the price was a great deal and the wood was not a veneer..item #NCH06MBQ
I upgraded to the King for an extra $100 and added an armoire for $545.00
The Sleep Therapy mattresses are wonderful..
It's hard to find a good furniture store in SD, IMO that doesn't have everything ornante and claws as legs on them..hate that look.
I like simple but elegant..
I noticed that not all the furniture at Jerome's is of the highest quality so you really have to go there and see it for yourself..
Good luck to you and have a wonderful time with your son!

TahitiTams - Jeromes sounds like it will work for us. Son doesn't like ornante. Will keep your remarks in mind about paying attention to quality.

Thank you very much for taking the time to post. Your help is very much appreciated.

I rarely find anything I like in Jeromes, but they do have lots of stuff.

I do see good stuff in Plummers (various locations), and for your son, Ikea (Mission Valley, not far from Qualcomm Stadium) might have decent bedroom stuff. There are a couple of areas where there are lots of furniture stores; Miramar Road and further north in San Marcos on the frontage road between San Marcos Blvd and La Posas road (Los Vallecitos Blvd).

I hope the weather stays good for your visit. Have a great time.

What style is he looking for?
How long does he expect it to last?

Jeromes sells furniture that is okay quality but it won't last years. The styles are unimaginative. If you like sets that you can move from showroom to bedroom, this will work.
Plummers same quality but with a sleeker more modern look.
IKEA- cheap and basic -Mission Valley off of Friars road near the 15.

Ethan Allen sells good quality furniture but at a price. Clairmont Mesa Blvd east of the 805.

Macy's in Mission Valley, nice quality but you have to look at it. You can find some good deals at Macy's.

Along Miramar Road, where you'll find the Plummers store, there are lots of furniture stores.

If he's looking for something a bit different, better quality second hand -try Carolines Consignment on Voltare near Ocean Beach. You can find some interesting pieces there at decent prices. Depends on how much you like shopping.

BTW- where does he live in San Diego?

Barbara and L84SKY - Noted your suggestions and comments, both very helpful.

Son lives in Ocean Beach.

Now he has thrown out a place called Mor Furniture - he looked on the web and saw a bed he liked that had black leather trim. Any comments on Mor Furniture?

We are looking for quality for the least amount of $'s. Son will hope for it to last a long time. The set he has he purchased second hand when he first moved to San Diego (a few years ago) and his money was very tight.

Thanks very much everyone.

Sandy

Hi..
Mor Furniture is similar to Jerome's, probably better quality..
I agree with Barbara and L84sky on Jerome's..I did get the nicest bedroom set made of Wood that was simple and sturdy and it was a great deal..(you really have to look at the stuff and make sure it is not particle board)
I love Plummers some things have gotten really expensive in the last couple of years..( I bought their leather sectional and Plummers it was $2k more than AZ Leather)
Miramar Road is where alot of furniture stores are and Ashley Furniture in the pyrimad you should check out too..Ethan Allan has great sales in their back room..can be very expensive but lovely furniture.
Should be some great sales for the holiday..

Never been in Mor.

I agree that Plummer's has become more expensive.

I got my dining room furniture at Macy's!
