I will be staying at the Marriott Mission Valley for business and I'm looking for ideas for very good restaurants in the area. I will have a rental car. Any suggestions? I really love authentic Mexican food. Thanks!

Emily head on over to Old town. There are many restaurants to choose from. You will not be far away, at all. Also do a search on the subject for more info. I use to live there but have not resided there for a several years. Enjoy S.D.
There's a good Mexican place diagonally across the street from where you're staying in a little strip mall called Sombrero's. A little nicer than hole in the wall, kind of like Ronerto's that locals will tell you about but easier to find. It's called Sombrero's. For nicer Mexican try Casa de Bandini in Old Town or Miguel's in Coronado or Point Loma. Su Casa in La Jolla is great too but hard to find if you don't know your way around.
Good god I really should pay more attention to my typing. Sorry for the duplication, and the other place is called Roberto's.
This web site was quite helpful when planning our trip to San Diego in April:

I really liked Old Town Mexican Cafe in Old Town.
I'll give yousome of my favorite restaurants:
Jack & Juilos-old town-San Diego Ave
Indigo Grill-little Italy-India Street
Georges at the Cove-La Jolla
Donavans Steak House-University City
Fishery-Cass St- Pacific Beach
these are just a few of the good places in San Diego. I'm sure other people will give you alot more.
