San Diego on New Year's Eve
Hi all,
My husband and I will be visiting San Diego for a week this winter, including during New Year's Eve. We're in our early 30's, from NYC, and have been to San Diego once before. I've been looking online for information about NYE events in San Diego, but haven't found much except clubbing, bar crawls, and early evening family events. Going to a bar at some point that evening would be fine, but we don't want to do a full-on bar crawl.
I saw this 2006 post about fireworks visible from the Omni hotel:
http://www.fodors.com/community/unit...-san-diego.cfm
... but I don't know if the fireworks location has changed since then and haven't been able to find much information about 2016 locations.
Some ideas for the type of things we'd like to do if we could find them:
* A concert or good cover band
* A nice dinner, ideally at a restaurant with decent vegetarian options and a good beer list.
* A place with dancing that won't be insanely crowded (e.g., not a typical club)
We'd appreciate any suggestions. Thank you!

Where are you staying? I assume you won't be driving..
One thing I always try to do on NY Eve in San Diego is Belgian New Year at Blind Lady Ale House. If you are into beer it is really fun. Toasting at 3pm means you can get back for a disco nap before the evening's events.

There are a plethora of places you could eat, but for really good food in a quieter setting consider Jayne's Gastropub.

There is a good place right across to get a pre-dinner cocktail called Polite Provisions.
As for dancing - I'd say stay out of the Gaslamp district. The Lafayette Hotel is having a party with dancing, not sure how crowded it will be...

Its fun to go dancing at Humphrey's by the Bay but it will probably be crowded. (Also, that is a hefty cover.)

Not a typical club: One of my favorite new bars, Park & Rec, is having something called "the Galactic Ball." Not sure if there will be dancing, but if it looks interesting you could inquire. They have good bands there (check out Lady Dottie and the Diamonds on another night.)

Its New Years, so probably every place will be a little bit nutty.

Thanks so much, rialtogrl! The Belgian New Year event sounds great, and I'll look into the other places you mentioned too.
We haven't booked our hotel(s) yet, but were thinking of doing 2-3 nights in Pacific Beach or La Jolla, a couple nights in Carlsbad or Encinitas, and a couple nights at a 3rd location in SD. I know not everyone likes moving around so much, but we like to experience different neighborhoods.

seaside85, you've probably already made some plans but wanted to let you know I walked by Park and Rec today and they have a poster in front for the "Galactic Ball." Its only $15 to get in and free if you arrive before 10pm! Heck I might even go. There is a DJ and a band called The Big Lewinsky - 90s cover band.
Also right next door, there is a new place that is suppose to be opening by the end of the year called Madison.

It looks like it will be pretty fab; so its another place to put on your radar for a drink at some point.
