My wife and I will be in San Diego for about 1 week in May. Where should we stay? We want a nice but reasonalble hotel or B&B. We want to relax and be close to some entertainment in terms of resteraunts and shopping. Any suggestions toward relaxation or eats and hotels are appreciated.
Thanks,
Mark

I stayed at the Travbelodge at 1960 Harbor Island Drive last June. Don't if it is still in business. Price was good, hotel was clean, but in process of being refurbished. Location was just super. I would return.
Hi Mark - You might be interested in the Heritage Park B&B Inn in Old Town San Diego. It's a very large Victorian house, filled with antiques, but you're made to feel very 'at home' by both the innkeepers and staff. It's only a couple of blocks-within walking distance-to the shops and restaurants of Old Town and is convenient to other San Diego attractions.
They serve a full, candlelit gourmet breakfast (at 8:30am if I remember correctly) in the dining room, complete with linen table cloth, beautiful china and silver. But the best part, of course, is meeting new friends over breakfast.
We stayed in the 1st floor Garden Room, and our room opened up to a beautiful and inviting garden...a nice place to relax and enjoy the San Diego sunshine.
If you get a chance, drive over to Coronado and stroll the grounds of the Hotel Del. If you have time, stop for some dessert and coffee and savor how good your treats are while enjoying the beauty of the Pacific.
Have fun wherever you wind up.
